Continuing the color/B&W comparisons on the daily strips. Again -- not much tone work on this one -- just some background fill. I'm happier with June here, though I'm still not "there" yet. Kelly's looking a little too old, and I'll adjust that next time she shows up in the strip.
I don't know if anyone has really noticed, but I made sure to use the same lettering font Graham had been using (WildWords from Comicraft) -- and have continued his use of the single pointer line from the balloons, so despite the switch in artists, some things about the "look" of the strip would stay consistent. More tomorrow -- for now, I have to hit the drawing board and make some serious progress on my Jungle Tales of Tarzan story.

Don't pay too much attention to those posting on Comics Kingdom. They've been beating up Bud Sagendorf some & Popeye is re-runs & Bud died in 1994. Also they have been vicious toward Frank Bollie on Apartment 3 G. Maybe Frank has slipped a big but he is very old & still cranking it out as far as I know unless someone is ghosting for him. Fred Fredicks who just retired from Mandrake has been treated badly too. I can see now that the re-runs on being used that his art had slipped to but he too was very old. You took over Rex & your doing a good job. It will take time to get transitioned into your own style. With the Phantom, you were just doing the Sunday page & have more panels & frankly out of the gate your Sunday pages looked great & a fantastic replacement for EB. When EB quit Judge Parker, Manley was getting lots of flack for a few weeks. Personally I think you will be an improvement on what Graham was doing. With all due respect to GN, I think he let it slip a bit from the days of Bradley & Eddington. I never liked the way GN did the speech baloons so if you decide to eventually go to what you do on the Phantom, I say go for it!! Keep up the good work!
If you want to leave insulting comments about my artwork, you're free to do so on the Comics Kingdom bulletin boards, which are brimming with them. I will not host such comments on my own blog. Thank you.
And thank you, very much BobO for your supportive message.
