And now the final batch of art from The Cartoon Book!
?
Ted Nelson
Chamberlain
Last, but certainly not least -- Clare Briggs.
If anyone can help match up the unidentified cartoons in this series with the names in the acknowledgments page posted in part one, I'd be quite grateful. I hope you enjoyed this look at some rare vintage cartoons!

The Cartoon Book -- WWI era cartoons
Here's something I've been working on for a while -- scanning a few pages at a time. The Cartoon Book is a government publication dating back to the World War I era -- promoting the sale of war bonds. It's a flimsy little thing -- newsprint, with no outer cover. My copy is starting to crumble around the edges and is getting mighty tan. So to rescue the drawings inside, I've scanned the thing and cleaned up the images a bit. There are some major cartoonists included -- and some I've never heard of -- 46 total. I'll post the book in several parts, so as to make it manageable.
The first cartoon in the book is by Gaar Williams.
John H. Cassel
Rube Goldberg -- extra large so you can read it!
?
Stinson
Dan Smith - extra large 'cause it's so damn good!

Phantom 1-20-13
The Savarna saga continues. As I post this, I'm drawing the last Sunday page of this story (4-14-13) and preparing for a "new adventure!" We have something quite special planned....

Another double dose of The Phantom
Insert usual excuse about being busy here. Catching up again with my Phantom postings -- here are the latest two Sunday pages. I must note that, while someone on another website has charged that I'm using an assistant to draw the strip, what you see here is 100% drawn, lettered (using Comicraft's "Comicrazy" font) and colored by me. I'm enjoying the gig too much to hand it over to anyone else -- and there would be no reason to. Yes, I have a full schedule, but not so full that I can't draw one Sunday strip per week. And why in the world would I let anyone else have the fun of drawing a strip like the second one here? After a year full of adventures featuring an almost exclusively male cast -- is there any way I'd pass on drawing Savarna's entrance? No way, pal. That's mine.
