Phantom art sales update! New art added!

In an effort to catch up a little on our finances, I'm offering a batch of Phantom Sunday strip art for sale.  Some of these are what went unsold in my previous listings -- but new pages have been added -- as well as some non-Phantom art.  Details on reserving/buying are at the bottom of the page.  No computer or furnace needing to be bought this time around, just a freelancer looking to get a little ahead of the ever-mounting bills!  Baby needs new shoes and all....

Sunday strip 4-22-12: Story panels one and two are digital "repeats" (somewhat altered from previous week). Moody Phantom close-up in panel 7. Was $250.00 now $225.00.SOLD

Sunday strip 5-13-12: First appearance of the Power House Gang. Phantom lurking in last panel.  Wire fence is digital.  Was $250.00 now $225.00 

 Sunday strip 5-20-12. Phantom in three panels with nice big 3/4 rear head shot.  I printed the blue line pencils way too dark on this one -- and, silly me, went ahead and inked it that way. Unlike the other originals, the blue line really does show on this one, which may be a distraction for some.  Was $250.00 now $200.00 

Sunday page 6-17-12: Phantom in two panels -- nice profile shot. Spatter effect in background of panel 6 is digital. Was $275.00 now $225.00.

Sunday page 6-24-12 -- Logo panel printed a little lighter than usual -- but doesn't seem as obvious in the original as it does in this scan.  Some of the background buildings are digital, but touched up and partially inked by hand. Nice big close-up of Phantom and some tricky panel/balloon placement! Was $300.00 now $275.00.

NEWLY OFFERED PAGES!!!!

The following Phantom pages are offered for sale for the first time here -- images are quick cell phone camera shots, so not as clear as the scanned pages above -- but they should serve to show the art well enough. Paper looks a little gray here -- but is clean white bristol board.

WHACK! Phantom punchline.

The Power House Gang story nears its conclusion with a round-house punch from the Phantom.  Today's strip is shown above.  Below is a small shot of the blue line prelim for the page direct from the Manga Studio program I use for pencils and lettering.  For inking, I knock down the blue quite a bit -- printing it at about 50% of the intensity shown here.

Last image on the page is my reference photo of the punch.  Since I'm my cheapest, most readily available model, the characters in the strip are often posed by me -- using my MacBook's "Photo Booth" program (image reversed).  Plastic replica gun in hand -- and yes, that's a Superman watch.

Another double dose of watery Phantom adventure!

The Power House Gang tale rolls along.  Seeing these together, I'm wishing I'd colored that last panel of 8/5/12 as dark as those on the following page -- it's night and underwater, after all. Ah, the curse of being self-critical....

WANTED!

There was a copy of The Boys Who Vanished in our attic when I was kid, and I was always quite fascinated with it.  I recently decided it might be fun to track down a copy -- our attic copy having vanished long ago.  Well, an internet search showed a few book dealers with copies -- but at insanely high prices.  I'm not willing to pop for the crazy bucks they want (it just can't be worth as much as some have it listed) -- but would trade some of my original art (or a custom drawing if you're willing to wait in line) for a nice edition in dust jacket.

I'd also love to have these nifty vintage Batman and Robin figures.  Anybody have a set to spare?  Again, looking to trade.

Another item on the want list -- Volume Nine of IDW's Complete Dick Tracy.  Annoyingly out of print and listed at inexplicably nasty prices on line.   

I'd also like to add The Art of John Carter to my collection.  Went out of print almost immediately and now listed at absurd prices.  

Last but not least on the out of print stuff want list -- the DVD of Ray Harryhausen's Valley of Gwangi - legit issue -- no DVR copies, please.  Anyone want to trade? 

Who knows what evil lurks....?

A recent commission for a fan.  The first image is my preliminary sketch in Manga Studio -- hence the page number!  Pose and cape drapery inspired by a publicity photo of Guy WIlliams as Zorro. The prelim was printed out and transferred to bristol board via pencil and lightbox.  I added the logo -- the original pulp magazine version -- slightly skewed for effect.  Inked with brush and pen.  Finished with graphite stick and colored inks.

My schedule is pretty full right now -- and I have three long-standing commissions I must finish soon -- so can't take on any more at the moment -- but these are always fun to do.

Phantom on a Friday.

Yes, I'm running late with the blog updates again.  At least I'm not as far behind with the blog as I am with the webpage!  I never even managed to announce my daughter Lara's arrival on the "News" page there, and she's almost six months old!

Well, I am ahead of schedule on producing the comic strip itself -- so I have that going for me!
