The M.M.M.S. wants YOU!

I had copies of these posters from Marvel's M.M.M.S. (Merry Marvel Marching Society) fan club when I was a kid (I belonged to Marvelmania and F.O.O.M., too).  They're long gone -- I'm sure they got tossed after being torn and tattered from being taped and re-taped to my bedroom wall.  I found these scans on the web a loooong time ago -- they were a bit yellowed and worn, so I cleaned them up in photoshop.  I hope whoever originally posted them, doesn't mind me re-posting them here. I only wish they were larger -- but you can't have everything, can you? What wonderful, iconic images of these silver age Marvel heroes!  Face front, true believer!

Hey Terry, any ideas about who inked those images?

All of them are more or less recognizable from the smaller, less detailed versions that have appeared elsewhere, but I've always been intrigued by the almost shimmering linework on the posters--particularly the Hulk (which looks almost like Jack David over Kirby) and Spidey (could that be Bill Everett over Ditko?).

Any thoughts?

I've always thought they looked like Everett reworking existing drawings by others (Kirby, Ditko, etc.) -- but I've never been 100% sure of it.

Looking closer at them, I think Marie Severin may be a possibility. Does anyone know for certain?

BTW, there are reasonably high resolution scans/photos of the Spidey, Hulk, Doc Strange and Sub-Mariner posters over in the Heritage Auctions archives.

Syd Shores is a name that's just been suggested -- and I'm thinking that just might be right.

Sid or more likly Sol Brodsky head of production.

They took drawings done for other purposes and had Marie Severin trace/reink them all. I'm pretty sure of this. In fact, I believe I once discussed them with her.

Seems my earlier suspicion that Marie Severin did them is right, according to Mark. And Mark knows his stuff, so I'll consider the mystery solved. Thanks!
